I can’t believe it has taken me nearly 5 years to write a post on the benefits of peg dolls in play…I’m proud and embarrassed in equal measure. Proud that I have found enough peg doll loving people to keep me in business this long but embarrassed at how little effort I thought I would have to put in to keep it going.

When I first started Planet Peg, I was still childminding and very much connecting with other Early Years accounts and a target audience that just understood. My dolls were displayed in play set ups and people could see how they were used and the learning opportunities they presented….and then I got bigger and moved away from the early years circles into the small business circles and naively just expected that everyone there would know too!

I stopped creating play set ups,  connecting with play accounts and to be honest, promoting my product- which brings us to the point of this post and what you can expect to see from me going forward….

If you didn’t aready know, I am obsessed with the magic of simple wooden characters in play and the opportunities for learning and development they present. The lack of overstimulation from flashing lights or battery operated sounds is perfect for encouraging long periods of focused and independent play in which children are able to drive the narrative. Peg dolls are effective tools for helping children make sense of the world and they allow them opportunities for emotional and social exploration. Children are able to project their own feelings onto characters, role play different family structures, possible peer conflicts and process real life scenarios. Lots of my dolls are designed to be used alongside storytelling and therefore promote language and communication skills. Encouraging imaginative role play prompts children to build vocabulary, practice sentence structure and engage in conversation.
